After highlighting the new technologies that helped producers unlock shale gas and tight oil, Heinberg goes on to explain why he believes the energy industry’s promotion of the recent boom in oil and gas is mostly hype.
For starters, he lets his readers know where he stands on the issue of the shale revolution: he believes it’s not a revolution at all. The shale gas industry, he writes, had a practical motive to trumpet the immense size of the natural gas resource base in the United States: its need for investment capital.
