Prior to joining the academy, Dany worked as a policy advisor and a speechwriter to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner and the Race Discrimination Commissioner in the Australian Human Rights Commission. Dany has also written and spoken powerfully and beautifully about her experiences surviving a brutally changing landscape in Australia, including her book Summertime written in the ashes of the bushfires that devastated Australia in 2019-2020. She lives as part of a multispecies community, including donkeys, wombats, and the rainforest, on Dharawal country in south east Australia.
