The Power of Unpredictable Outcomes
December 5, 2019
We’re asking for your financial support as we close out 2019.
Please consider making a donation to help us reach more people in our efforts to build greater resilience in communities around the world.
“You may be familiar with the Butterfly Effect. It’s a concept that if you change something in the system, even by just a little bit, you can dramatically change the entire outcome.
The theory was created based on a computer model that was developed to try to understand and predict weather patterns.
There are a lot of similarities between that and the sustainability crisis that we face.
In both situations we’re dealing with complex systems, that are global in scale, that are comprised of countless moving parts coming together in ways that are impossible to predict, let alone control.
It doesn’t mean that we can’t influence them, which is why we want to encourage you to step forward and to take action in your own life.
I’m also going to ask you to make a donation to Post Carbon Institute. We will work tirelessly to reach more people, to educate and inspire them, to take action as well.
Now it’s easy to think that actions that you might take in your life, or ones that I might take in my own, won’t have enough of an impact.
But I want to remind you of the Butterfly Effect. Remember it can be tiny, little changes in the system that make all the difference.”
