Local Energy Farms Advisory Panel

Anthony Duggleby (Canada)

President and Chief Executive Officer of Katabatic Power, a California wind energy company in the pre-development stage of two major wind farm sites. Mr. Duggleby is a Canadian wind energy pioneer with several decades of construction experience in West Coast waters and wide experience of water power and of the electrical power generation and transmission industry. He runs his own wood and metal workshops for manufacturing items ranging from boats to full-scale meteorological towers. He has long been interested in manufacturing co-operatives, especially Mondragon in Northern Spain.
Carol Werner (United States)

Executive Director of the Environmental and Energy Study Institute, a non-profit public policy organization based in Washington DC. Ms. Werner has more than 25 years of public policy experience on energy and environmental issues. Among her many responsibilities, she is an active member on numerous committees and boards for a variety of energy organizations. She has organized literally hundreds of Congressional briefings and other meetings over the years, spoken at many conferences and workshops, and helped organize several broad-based coalitions.
Dr. Hermann Scheer (Germany)

President of EUROSOLAR (European Association for Renewable Energies), General Chairman of the World Council for Renewable Energy and Member of the German House of Parliament. Dr. Scheer has received many awards for his solar crusading work, including the World Prize for BioEnergy, Alternative Nobel Prize, World Solar Prize and TIME Magazine’s ‘Heroes for the Green Century.'  He helped introduce the 'feed-in tariff' into Germany, which is part of the reason why German leads the world in wind and solar. Dr Scheer has also written several books, including 'The Solar Economy'.
Jeremy Leggett (Britain)

Jeremy Leggett was already renowned for his work on climate at Greenpeace and formed Britain’s best known solar PV company, solarcentury. In 2005 he drew on his former life working for BP to write Half Gone (‘Empty Tank’ in North America), which drew praise for its writing and renewed attention to peaking world oil and Britain’s own dire state of oil and gas supplies.

John Jeavons (United States)

President and Executive Director of Ecology Action and the developer of Grow Biointensive, the comprehensive and sustainable cropping system that enables people in all regions of the world to grow a balanced diet (including energy crops) on a small plot of land without the use of petroleum. These high-yielding and resource-conserving food-raising methods are being used in over 130 countries and by such organizations as UNICEF, Save the Children, and the Peace Corps.  Mr. Jeavons spreads his knowledge to many other people through his two- and three- day practical mini-farming
workshops.
Dr. John MacDonald (Canada)

Founder of Day4 Energy Inc, (Vancouver, British Columbia), a company formed to create a new generation of low-cost Photovoltaic (PV) power generation products, especially aimed at industrial, commercial, and community-scale power generation.  Dr. MacDonald is also co-founder and former CEO and Chairman of MacDonald Dettwiler & Associates Ltd., one of Canada’s leading aerospace firms.  He has extensive experience in industrial leadership, international business development, and is an advisor to governments and companies internationally.
John Schaeffer (United States)

Founder and President of Real Goods, a global leader in providing products and information on renewable energy and sustainable living. In addition to its distribution activities, the organization has a commercial consulting division that works with eco-tourism resorts, developers, architects, builders, and green businesses to design, procure, install, and maintain renewable energy systems.  Mr. Schaeffer also founded the Solar Living Institute, a non-profit educational organization that promotes sustainable living through inspirational environmental education.
Dr. Paul Sears (Canada)

Research scientist with Natural Resources Canada's CANMET Energy Technology Centre in Ottawa since 1982 working large-scale energy issues, and also on community energy systems. Since his doctorate in Cambridge, England over three decades ago, Dr. Sears has used his extensive background in chemistry to focus on energy research. He first became concerned about Peak Oil more than forty years ago.
Dr. Richard George (United States)

NASA subcontractor helping NASA find and evaluate new energy technologies. Dr. George's background in emerging technologies has been guided by his practical approach, developed through strong business and administration knowledge and skills. Dr. George’s many past consulting clients have included manufacturing and technology companies across America as well as internationally.
Professor Robert Millar (Canada)

Dr. Millar is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver who focuses specifically on water issues. His research and teaching interests include hydrology and river hydraulics, human impacts on water resources, bioengineering and the influence of vegetation on riverbank erosion processes, and increasingly, water use and planning and the design of water infrastructure in a lower energy world.
Professor Tony Marmont (Britain)

Founder and Director of Beacon Energy, a UK energy farm, which is the inspiration for Post Carbon Institute's Local Energy Farm Initiative. Professor Marmont works to demonstrate and promote energy self-suffiency, as well as raising public awareness about global warming and encouraging the reduction of CO2 emissions. Beacon Energy’s premises operate independently from the national electricity grid, with overall energy consumption less than half the average for office buildings in the UK. Professor Marmont, who now teaches renewable energy at three universities in Britain, once also owned a wind turbine company.
