Julian Darley, MA, MSc, President
Julian Darley is founder and director of Post Carbon Institute and Global Public Media. He is the author of High Noon for Natural Gas: the New Energy Crisis (2004). Julian has an MSc in Environment and Social Research from University of Surrey in the UK, an MA in Journalism and Communications from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BA in Music & Russian. Julian currently lives in Sebastopol, California, USA.

Celine Rich, MA, Executive Director
Celine has been working with Post Carbon Institute since its inception in 2001. She worked for 3 years as a Research Strategist with the University of British Columbia’s Development Office. In addition, she created and led community cultural development projects in Vancouver for six years. Celine has a MA in Design for the Environment from the Chelsea College of Art and Design, UK; a BA in Fine Arts from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Canada, and a Certificate of Marketing from Kwantlen College, Canada. Celine currently lives in Sebastopol, California, USA.

Andrew Calvo, Director of Events
Andrew Calvo brings over 19 years of event, sales, and marketing experience to his role as Director of Events for the Post Carbon Institute.
For the last eight years Andrew has produced technology events in the US and Europe for O'Reilly Media (oreilly.com)and Carsonified (carsonified.com), as well as cultural events for San Jose Jazz. Andrew also worked for 12 years in the music technology industry for leading companies such as Digidesign, A Division of Avid Technologies and Berkeley Integrated Audio Systems. Andrew is a musician who plays bass and piano, and worked his way through San Francisco State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies degree by playing jazz and bartending at the original Jazz at Pearl's nightclub in San Francisco.

Asher Miller, Relocalization Network Program Manager
Asher has worked in various capacities in the nonprofit sector, most recently as founder of Climate Changers, an organization that inspires people to reduce their impact on the climate by focusing on simple and achievable actions anyone can take. Previously, he was Youth Manager at the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County; Partnership Director at Plugged In; International Production Coordinator at Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation; a ghostwriter; and a consultant for a number of other nonprofit groups. He recently served as a member of Senator John Edwards' Cleantech / Green Business Advisory Committee. Born in the Netherlands, he's lived in Israel and across the United States.

Christoffer Hansen, Energy Farm Development Specialist
Chris works in the Energy Farm program assessing the strengths and vulnerabilities of farms and communities that are responding to the demands of peak oil and climate change. It is evident that the agricultural system in North America is in dire need of youth, fresh ideas, and renewed energy. In response, Chris is working to transform anger related to injustice and corporate hegemony into motivated energy for positive change. Currently operating in Willits, CA, he and Dr. Jason Bradford are developing a mini-farm that showcases the fundamental concepts of the Energy Farm Initiative. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a BS in Psychology and Philosophy and has worked in Oregon, California, Canada and Ecuador with organic agriculture and appropriate technology.

Daniel Lerch, Post Carbon Cities Program Manager
(based in Portland, Oregon)
Daniel manages our Post Carbon Cities program, providing resources and assistance to local governments on peak oil and climate change. He is the author of Post Carbon Cities: Planning for Energy and Climate Uncertainty, the first major municipal guidebook on peak oil and global warming. Daniel has worked on urban planning issues for over twelve years in the public, private and non-profit sectors. He is also a co-founder of The City Repair Project, an award-winning non-profit organization working on community public space issues. Mr. Lerch has a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a Master of Urban Studies from Portland State University in Oregon.
Daniel has delivered presentations and workshops to elected officials, planners, and other audiences across the United States, as well as in Canada, Ireland and the UK (see past presentations).

Desiree Cesarini, Executive Assistant
Desiree is a career Administrative Specialist. Prior to Post Carbon, she supported the CEO of ATG, CFO of GE Corporate Finance and the VP of HR at Autodesk. Desiree has a BA in Computer Graphics.

Josh Puckett, Sebastopol Demonstration Energy Gardener
Josh is a student at Sonoma State University studying biology. He has been at the Energy Garden since the beginning, ripping out the lawn and transforming the property into the productive garden it is now. He hails from northwestern San Diego county; where he got into gardening through teaching environmental education and working the organic garden. Josh is a utilitarian, a naturalist, and an existentialist so he strongly supports figuring a way out to use plants to improve our life as well as the state of our planet.

Laurel Hoyt, Post Carbon Cities Program Coordinator
(based in Portland, Oregon)
Laurel provides research, website, writing and administrative support for our Post Carbon Cities program. Prior to joining Post Carbon, Laurel was the Education Coordinator of Free Geek, where she helped this collectively-managed computer recycling and computer training non-profit grow into a national model for community-based technology centers. She has a B.A. Political Science from Portland State University.

Linton Hale, Web developer
Linton's responsibilities include web design and implementation, web project management, technical planning and documentation. Linton holds an independent bachelors degree from Brown University entitled "Educational Change: Music and Computers" that combines computer science, anthropology and music. He has about 20 years experience as a database and multimedia programmer, information systems manager and director of web development. He is also a composer and musician who loves to share music in community. He lives in Sebastopol, California.

Miriam Volat, Energy Farms Network Program Manager
Miriam Volat M.S. studied at World College West and the University of California at Davis. Her M.S. is in Vegetable Crops with an emphasis in Sustainable Agricultural Systems. Her B.A. is in International Relations with an emphasis in Environmental Studies. Her background ranges from research comparing organic and conventional farming systems; conducted workshops to educate growers on biological agriculture to starting community gardens, working on community organizing projects and facilitating for nonprofit organizations, graduate programs and companies focused on resource conservation. Miriam has worked with and served on several Boards of agricultural, non-profit organizations including FARMS Leadership Program, Community Alliance with Family Farmers, Marin Agricultural Land Trust and Roots and Wings. She is committed to the development of sustainable local food systems.

Shelby Tay, Relocalization Network Coordinator
Shelby is a graduate of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, with an Honours BSc. degree in Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Ecology. She recently co-coordinated an undergraduate course on globalization and the environnment at the University, and has volunteered with non-profit organizations and youth focused on preserving wilderness and fostering local culture and performing arts.

Tim Gravenites, Technical Support
Tim provides technical support to the Post Carbon Institute staff both locally and globally. Tim started his IT career in high school, after being put on the payroll his sophomore year, he knew that computers would be his life. Presently, Tim runs his own tech support business, has completed Cisco's CCNA coursework, and volunteers for several blogging sites. Tim spent some time in the online journalism world as Filefront's executive news editor in 2003 and covered the largest gaming industry convention, The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2004. Tim's background in networking, security, desktop support and blogging make him an important part of the North American Post Carbon Institute team.
