Local 20/20. Port Townsend, Washington. (17 August 2006) and Renewable Energy Symposium and Expo. Everett, Washington. (18 August 2006)

In August, Julian visited Washington to address two Local Post Carbon Groups, Local 20/20 from Port Townsend, and Sustainable Everett in Everett. These presentations, virtually identical, addressed Relocalization and included energy consumption data particular to Washington. These were no ordinary audiences, including two congressmen, one state politician and the Mayor of Everett. The confluence of citizens, politicians and staff are becoming increasingly common, an essential step in working toward the cooperation that will be necessary to navigate the changes ahead.

 

Local Government and Energy Vulnerability. Everett, Washington. (18 August 2006)

While in Washington, Julian delivered an updated version of his presentation from Petaluma (May 2006) to municipal leaders and staff, key allies in reducing local energy demand. This presentation included Washington energy consumption data.

In keeping with the conference goal of “connecting those with a commitment to creating an economy that preserves community character and vitality, promotes economic justice, and protects ecological health and diversity,” Julian Darley’s presentation outlines the ties between energy and our global economy, and proposes local renewable energy-backed economies.


Congress for New Urbanism - CNU XIV: Developing the New Urbanism. Providence, Rhode Island. (3 June 2006)

Julian Darley's presentation at the Congress for New Urbanism XIV Conference in Rhode Island depicts some aspects of Relocalization, tailored for an audience of architects and developers. The presentation was very well received by the conference participants, who are important allies in preparing our locales for the coming energy decline

 

North Bay Energy Vulnerability Summit. Petaluma, California. (19 May 2006)

The Energy Vulnerability Summit brought elected officials together from all over California to discuss means to assess and prepare for vulnerability to municipalities and public services brought on by energy decline.

 

Local Solutions Conference. New York City, New York. (29 April 2006)

Julian Darley's presentation at the Local Solutions to the Energy Dilemma Conference in New York City, 29 April 2006. Darley gives an overview of Global Public Media and Post Carbon Institute, talks about the Relocalization Network and discusses upcoming projects and strategies for Relocalization.

 

Connections between North and South. Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. (22 April 2006)

Environmental organization Ecology North invited Julian to present in Yellowknife, on the scope of implications of the Mackenzie Gas Project, which is proposed to deliver natural gas from the northernmost shores of the NWT south to the existing pipeline system in Alberta.

 

Post Carbon Institute. Willits, California. (4 April 2006)

California is an important region in terms of support for the Post Carbon Institute. This presentation by Julian Darley gives a brief outline of the role of our organization.

In this presentation Julian Darley reports on, what he calls, Colorado’s ‘big energy’ resources, including coal, oil, natural gas, big hydro and nuclear, as well as how he hopes we will move forward.
