Full Charge Bookkeeper (Full time - Sebastopol, CA)

Are you a Quickbooks expert with both non-profit and for-profit experience? Can you manage the financial aspects of an organization and interface it with the strategic plan? Can you quickly learn the workings of a multi-faceted non-profit organization, and develop a good rapport with our dispersed team? Can you keep the books current, handle receivables & payables, process payroll and donations, and generate professional-looking financial reports? Responsibilities:

• Manage the financial systems of a non-profit organization with multiple entities
• Setting up and maintaining the chart of accounts and accounting procedures
• Setting up and maintaining the job, service item, payroll item, and class lists
• Efficient and timely processing of payables, receivables, and payroll
• Acting as the main point of contact for AP/AR matters
• Managing bank accounts and online merchant accounts in several currencies
• Processing donations and issuing tax receipts
• Organizing and maintaining hard and soft files on all transactions
• Providing project-specific financial data to managers on a regular basis
• Providing P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports regularly to management
• Assist with budgeting
• Coordinating reports and forms for all required state and federal reporting

Qualifications:

• Five years of bookkeeping, with expertise in QuickBooks and Excel
• Solid knowledge of GAAP, financial management, budgeting, and reporting
• Should have accounting degree or certification

Other Desirable Qualities:

• Experience with non-profits, including governing laws and regulations
• Experience with several currencies
• Organized, self-directed, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and accurate
• Enjoy working in a team environment within a small office

Web Designer- Drupal (Full time - Sebastopol, CA)

We are looking for someone who understands Drupal theming and can rapidly create new professional-looking designs to allow us to keep our many sites up to date and fresh. The candidate should have a mastery of visual design technologies and be able to quickly translate ideas into web designs.

The ideal candidate moves easily between Photoshop and standards compliant XHTML/CSS and is able to rapidly create designs that work identically between major browser versions. Some knowledge of PHP and JQuery is required and some experience with Drupal theming is strongly desired. Experience with configuring and/or developing Drupal-based websites is a plus.

Skills summary:

• Ability to quickly create and realize new web page designs, creating integrated visual components
• Ability to envision and realize logo and branding designs from scratch
• Mastery of Photoshop, Illustrator, hand-coded XHTML, CSS, JQuery
• Excellent with Flash, Actionscript, video encoding
• Experience with PHP programming
• Experience with Drupal (at least theming / site administration)
• Comfortable creating training material using Camtasia screencasts or similar tools
• Portfolio of websites demonstrating creativity, usability, flexibility

Social Entrepreneur (full time, Sebastopol, California)

Are you an experienced entrepreneur with expertise in marketing, the Web, transport, and people? Post Carbon Institute is looking for an energetic and dynamic individual who has strong interpersonal and organizational skills. We need a person to develop the Solar Car Share business who is both creative and logical, and not afraid to roll up their sleeves and take care of details. We balance a Web 2.0 interface with on-the-ground community action. The aim of the Solar Car Share is to share vehicles which are fuelled with local solar energy, thus dramatically reducing both dependence on fossil fuels and carbon emissions.

Potential job duties include but are not limited to:

• Develop the Solar Car Sharing Program, which currently consists of six electric vehicles and one hybrid in Sebastopol
• Initiate and execute a creative marketing program to develop this first-of-its-kind car share program, including brand building, memberships, website development, and local government promotions
• Experiment with different price plans
• Develop and execute a maintenance plan for the vehicles
• Develop requirements for online project and task management for the Solar Car Share (the software will be written by our software department)
• Find prospective charging sites and negotiate with property owners for their installation
• Create partnerships with Solar PV manufacturers to supply panels for solar charging stations
• Identify and secure car share members
• Community outreach through the media, including press releases, etc. and distribution of promotional materials
• Oversee content update and improvement of website and provide leadership regarding e-marketing strategies
• Write copy and oversee creation of case statements, brochures, newsletters, and program promotional materials
• Help respond to media inquiries
• Develop a system for 24 hour emergency call-outs
• Be available for 24 hour for emergency on-call assignments (until above call-out system is developed)
• Develop good relationships with other Post Carbon Institute program managers and staff
• Understand the implications of a Post Carbon world and help build a culture of reduced consumption and local production

Qualifications and experience:

• Proven track record of getting a complex business started
• Must be experienced with web 2.0 Internet usage & using normal office computers
• Project Management (including online experience)
• Developing business systems
• Experience with business development
• Experience with organization development
• Some knowledge of scientific principles
• Ability to think logically and coordinate complex logistical tasks
• Must have excellent written & verbal communication skills, and a good memory
• Some knowledge of electric vehicles, car sharing and fleet management
• You need to self-manage, have excellent follow-through, and multi-tasking abilities, have a good sense of humor and adventure, and maintain a positive attitude
• Desire to get things done well, on time and on budget
• Common sense!
